Progressions into State Championships 26/27 Season
Zone and Region Championships will remain the foundation for qualification in the 9s to 15s age groups, while an enhanced “Next best 8” opportunity for athletes in the 13s to 15s reflects the range of competition properties available to athletes.
Key components of the pathway include:
- Athletes in the 9s to 12s will continue to qualify for the NSW Little Athletics Championships via the Zone and Region pathway.
- Athletes in the 13s to 15s will benefit from a dual-pathway model, enabling qualification via the Zone and Region Championships and through an expanded list of endorsed competitions held throughout the summer, including eligible interstate events.
- Athletes in the 16s, 17s, and Under 20s will continue to directly enter the NSW Junior Championships. At the same time, many Zones and Regions will provide participatory opportunities for these age groups, supporting both participation and engagement at the local level.
- Athletes in the Open and Masters age groups will also continue to directly enter their respective State Championships.
